Claire Jones Counselling and Psychotherapy

The Journey Starts

Compassionate anxiety counselling to help you feel calmer, more confident and more like yourself.

Living with anxiety can be exhausting. It can leave you overthinking conversations, worrying about things that haven’t happened, struggling to switch off at night, or feeling as though you’re constantly waiting for something to go wrong.

For some people, anxiety is there every day. For others, it shows up in specific situations—before a presentation, during social events, starting a new job, or whenever life feels uncertain. However it affects you, anxiety can make your world feel smaller than it needs to be.

I offer face-to-face counselling in Cheshire as well as online counselling across the UK, so you can choose the setting that feels most comfortable and accessible for you. Whether we meet in person or online, you’ll find a warm, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly and begin to understand what’s keeping anxiety going.

If you feel ready to take the next step, you’re very welcome to get in touch for an initial conversation. It’s an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you’re hoping for from the process, and whether working together feels like the right fit for you.

Does This Sound Familiar?

Anxiety doesn’t have to control your life.

  • Constant overthinking or worrying
  • Feeling on edge or unable to relax
  • Racing heart, tight chest or physical tension
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Avoiding situations because they feel overwhelming
  • Fear of being judged or getting things wrong
  • Panic attacks
  • Perfectionism and people-pleasing
  • Self-doubt and imposter syndrome
  • Feeling stuck despite knowing “there’s nothing to worry about”

Whatever you’re experiencing, you don’t have to manage it alone.

My Own experience of Anxiety

Alongside my professional training, I also bring lived experience.

While your story will be different from mine, I understand how convincing anxiety can be and how lonely it sometimes feels. Therapy isn’t about pretending anxiety disappears overnight – it’s about learning a different relationship with it, so it no longer dictates the choices you make.

My aim is to offer a space where you feel understood, accepted and supported without judgement.

About Anxiety Counselling

How Anxiety Counselling can help.

Every person experiences anxiety differently, so I tailor therapy to your individual needs.

Together we might explore:

  • Understanding why anxiety developed
  • Recognising the patterns that keep anxiety going
  • Managing physical symptoms of anxiety
  • Reducing avoidance gradually and safely
  • Building confidence in everyday situations
  • Developing self-compassion instead of self-criticism
  • Working through perfectionism and imposter syndrome
  • Learning practical techniques you can use between sessions

Rather than trying to eliminate every anxious thought, we’ll focus on helping you respond differently so anxiety has less influence over your life.

Support for anxiety

There are many different forms of anxiety, and we shape the support around you.

General anxiety can feel like your mind is always switched on. You may find yourself worrying about work, relationships, your health, family, finances, or things that haven’t even happened yet. Often, once one worry fades, another quickly takes its place.

You might notice yourself:

  • Overthinking everyday decisions
  • Expecting the worst-case scenario
  • Feeling constantly on edge or restless
  • Struggling to relax or switch off
  • Finding it difficult to sleep because your mind won’t stop racing
  • Seeking reassurance from others
  • Feeling physically tense, tired or overwhelmed

For some people, these symptoms may be part of Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), while for others they arise during particularly stressful periods of life. Whatever your experience, persistent worry can be draining and make it difficult to enjoy the present moment.

In counselling, we’ll work together to understand what fuels your anxiety and the patterns that keep it going. We’ll develop practical strategies to help you respond differently to anxious thoughts, calm your nervous system, and build confidence in your ability to cope with uncertainty.

My aim isn’t to tell you to “stop worrying” – because if it were that simple, you would have done it already. Instead, I’ll help you develop a different relationship with anxiety, so it no longer has the same hold over your life.

the DARE Response, created by Barry McDonagh

The DARE Approach, to Anxiety.

Many people spend years fighting anxiety, trying to distract themselves or make anxious feelings disappear. Unfortunately, that struggle often keeps the cycle going.

The DARE approach isn’t about forcing yourself to feel calm. It’s about reducing the fear of anxiety itself so it gradually loses its power. It offers a different path:

Defuse

Recognise anxious thoughts without believing every one of them.

Allow

Stop battling the anxious feelings and allow them to be present without adding more fear.

Run Towards

Gently lean into uncomfortable sensations rather than avoiding them, helping your brain learn they aren’t dangerous.

Engage

Return your attention to the present moment and continue living your life, even if anxiety is still there.

If it feels like a good fit for you, we can use the DARE principles alongside other therapeutic approaches to create strategies that suit your individual needs
